NO NEWS YET WHETHER THIS EVENT WILL RUN IN 2008 Redditch Sprint Triathlon ?? Sunday May 2008 ?? 750m open water swim 20km bike 5km run The Redditch Sprint Triathlon is the fourth running of this open water event in conjunction with Redditch Triathletes, Redditch Borough Council. This year the main event organisers wil lbe Trafeco- have been closelyinvolved with the previous years events. Previous years races have been a great success; very popular with all those who took part. The event is based at Arrow Valley Park Redditch. Redditch is on the borders of Worcestershire and Warwickshire, 15 miles south of Birmingham. The 900 acre Arrow Valley Country Park incorporates a 30 acre man made lake developed for recreational use. Transition, race control and all the trade and food and drink stands will all be close to the visitor centre. Ample free parking will be available. There are childrens playgrounds and and ample opportunities for spectators to follow the progress of competitors. The visitor centre has a café and shop. The course is accurately measured and meets the demands of the most discerning of seasoned triathletes. The course is also ideal for first time triathletes, providing easy entry and exit from the water, a scenic country cycle route and run all on paths within the Country Park. The swim will consist of one lap of the lake anti clockwise; accurately measured from a deep water start, with exit onto a concrete rampand smooth path to transition. The water is usually warm in May and the water quality is frequently tested and found to be good. The cycle route starts on a brief stretch of closed road and turns onto the A4189 towards Henley in Arden where the course is undulating and fast. Before Henley in Arden the course turns left to pass through Ullenhall village. This C road is a little more technical as Ullenhall includes some speed bumps; after Ullenhall the road rises to Gorcott Hill and turns onto the A435 for a fast dual carriageway descent to Redditch to leave competitors legs fresh for a fast run. Entry forms will be available shortly here or at the trafeco website - see homepage for link. |
